Recently, I asked for recommendations for transcription services to use with qualitative interviews. As promised, I'm sending a compiled list (attached). Otter.ai received the most recommendations but there are several other services that sound promising.

    Thanks to all who replied!

    Hi Abbie,

    Thanks for sharing this list.

I'm a long-time user of Otter.ai and, until recently, I would have recommended them highly for relatively accurate, automated transcriptions. However, in a recent update, they have quietly removed a number of key features from Pro and Educational users.

These changes (including removing the ability to download multiple files) limits the usability of Otter.ai considerably. To access these features, educational users now have to pay an additional $25 per month, on top of their original licence fee.

I only note this as these changes were only made very recently, and without any announcement, so many users might not be aware of them yet. I'd be cautious of investing too much into Otter
