    Esteemed Colleagues, Greetings!

We trust you are doing fine and staying safe and healthy during these trying times.

You are cordially invited to send a chapter proposal to the following proposed Handbook:

The Springer Handbook of Workplace Happiness and Flourishing
    Edited by Satinder K. Dhiman

"If you are beginning to think what you are doing is very important, you need to take a holiday."
~Bertrand Russell, British Philosopher, Mathematician and Nobel Laureate

The Context of the proposed Handbook:

Humanity is passing through one of its toughest and uncertain times in recent memory. A tiny virus has shaken the whole trajectory of human undertakings-highlighting the fleeting nature of human endeavors and structures-and has underscored the precariousness of our organizations and institutions. Covid-19 pandemic has also reignited the need for spiritual and moral transformation, both at the personal and professional level. It has also heightened the need and concern for human and organizational happiness, well-being, fulfillment, and flourishing.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us and raised many questions about the ways we work, live our lives, and lead our organizations. Perhaps we need to draw upon the time-tested finding of the diverse fields such as philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, history, business, and so on. During such turbulent times, the older wisdom and contemplative traditions can also be greatly helpful. Now that the impending danger of the COVID-19 pandemic is slowly giving way to a protracted state of caution and restraint, we can benefit from taking a holistic perspective in dealing with its slings and arrows.

No society or country can endure without a spiritual and moral basis, a recognition of the value of fellowship, our sisterhood, brotherhood, and shared humanity. Such a sublime conception of the higher life ends all troubles, frictions, hatreds, and discords automatically. It has become abundantly clear that we all need to work humbly together with each other, albeit with Stoic equanimity and calm, to combat the after-effects of pandemic and stay constructive and strong-willed. Only then we can hope for a shared, sustainable future for humanity.

This proposed Handbook will present diverse perspectives and strategies that can serve as pathways to living a life that is eudaimôn, the term the ancient Greek philosophers used for a life 'well-lived' marked by 'happiness,' 'fulfilment' or 'flourishing.' We envision this Handbook as a primary reference work in workplace happiness in business, psychology, health care, education, and various other allied fields.

Key Terms: Workplace Happiness, Workplace Wellbeing, Human Flourishing, Eudaimonia, Subjective Wellbeing, Positive Psychology, Covid-19 Pandemic, Stoicism, Buddhist Psychology, Hassidic Philosophy, Zen, Mystical Christianity, Sufism, Philosophy of Ubuntu.

    Handbook Overview

Of all the things people can do to try to increase their happiness, the most effective and lasting one is to choose to live in a community that supports well-being.
    ~Dan Buettner[1]

Workplace happiness and flourishing is a happening field, fueled by the mounting research in positive psychology over the last two decades, and, more recently triggered by Covid-19 global pandemic. It is especially relevant now, given the fact that majority of employees worldwide are disengaged at work, according to recent Gallup polls.

This handbook proposes to present best practices in managing and leading the 21st century workforce. It offers strategies and tools to cultivate happiness and wellbeing in the present-day boundary-less work environment.

This Handbook, as a Major Reference Work (MRW), aspires to be a flagship project on the subject of workplace happiness which will comprise 90-100 contributing authors globally, ideally with 7-10 chapter proposals from each continent, spanning around 1,500-2,000 pages (to be issued in two to three handsomely-bound volumes).

Authored/co-authored chapters will consist of minimum 10,000 words and will represent a fine blend of theory and practice. We encourage PhD candidates to consider this invite who are doing research in the areas of human happiness and flourishing and workplace wellbeing, and so on. Typically, such chapters are co-authored with candidates' PhD supervisor (s) and/or research faculty.

If interested, please reply with chapter title and precise 150 words proposed chapter description by or before October 30, 2023, to   satinder.dhiman@woodbury.edu

Kindly cc all chapter co-authors, including providing their professional affiliation details. In the subject of your email, please mention "Chapter proposal for Handbook of Workplace Happiness and Flourishing."

The completed chapters are not due until the end of July 2024.

This handbook is a multi-volume, multi-author Major Reference Work (MRW) comprising a wide-ranging cadre of leading world-class scholars, practitioners and contributing authors from diverse fields of inquiry and specializations whose research and practice directly or indirectly pertain to the theme of workplace happiness and flourishing.

Chapter contributions should comprise a well-established, accepted body of knowledge on the topic, not new research, theses, or data.  Primary data may be used as "case in point" within the broader construct of workplace happiness and wellbeing. In other words, the chapter should reflect a balanced overview of the author's chosen topic and not an argument of its worth, value, or effectiveness.  E.g., "Napa Valley Wines" not "Napa Valley Creates the World's Best Wines.

Submitted chapters should be exclusively prepared for the present handbook. No part of the chapter should be published elsewhere in the identical form. Chapters should comprise 10,000-12,000 words (including all references, tables, appendices, bibliographies, etc.; co-authored chapters tend to have a higher word count), and use 1.5 line spacing and 12 pt. Times New Roman font, and must use the APA 7th edition reference style (www.apa.org)

This communication is being sent to a very large cadre of management/leadership/scholars and practitioners worldwide and a similar invite was also posted on the Academy of Management list serves for OB and MSR (sorry for any double and/or cross-postings).
