    CONFLICT MANAGEMENT (CM)

2026 PDW Program: Call for Submissions

PDW Chair: Sarah Doyle, University of Arizona

The Conflict Management (CM) Division invites creative, inclusive, and highly interactive proposals for Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) for the 2026 Academy of Management Annual Meeting, to be held July 31 – August 4, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Submissions should be made through the AOM Submission Center, which opens in early December 2025 and closes on January 13, 2026.

Conflict management remains a central challenge for organizations and societies navigating increasing complexity, interdependence, and division. PDWs are a space for us to come together to exchange ideas, develop new approaches, and advance the study and practice of conflict management in meaningful ways.

We welcome PDW proposals on a broad range of topics related to conflict management at the individual, team, organizational, interorganizational, and societal levels. Example topics include (but are not limited to):

    • Negotiating across cultural, ideological, or political divides
    • Rebuilding trust between former collaborators, competitors, or communities
    • Managing conflict and cooperation in hybrid or virtual teams
    • Engaging in restorative justice, mediation, and dispute resolution practices
    • Promoting inclusion, belonging, collaboration, and cooperation through innovative conflict management practices and policies
    • Harnessing AI and technology to support more effective conflict resolution
    • Advancing theory and methods for studying conflict at the interpersonal, intergroup, or societal level
    • Teaching conflict management through experiential learning or simulations
    • Bridging research and practice - translating conflict management insights into organizational, policy, or community impact

We particularly encourage innovative formats that go beyond traditional presentations - such as roundtables, research incubators, skills-based workshops, panel discussions, debates, or town halls. The best PDWs are ones that get people talking, reflecting, and connecting across different perspectives. Sessions should engage participants in active learning and dialogue, offering practical takeaways, conceptual insights, or new research directions. Please be sure to follow the AOM guidelines for PDW submissions (length, etc.).

    Your proposal should clearly identify:

    • The target audience (e.g., doctoral students, early-career scholars, senior faculty, or practitioners)
    • The intended learning goals and interactive elements
    • How the session will contribute to the professional development of participants and the broader CM community

Our goal is to curate a diverse, inclusive, and forward-looking PDW program that strengthens connections across research, teaching, and practice in conflict management and related domains.

We can't wait to see your ideas and to come together for another exciting Annual Meeting in Philadelphia!

If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Doyle, PDW Chair.
