AOM Annual Meeting in Chicago, August 11, 2018
Are you a doctoral student who is just finishing your second or third year? If so, consider attending the HR division middle-stage doctoral consortium. We are planning an exciting session that covers a variety of topics relevant for middle-stage doctoral students.
Goal & Content
This workshop is geared toward HR doctoral students in the middle of their program and is aimed to help students navigate the collection of career issues that begin to emerge when students are about halfway through a doctoral program. Students are expected to begin the transition into independent scholars, start building professional networks, move beyond the structure of courses and exams, and develop skills as an instructor. The workshop topics are designed to help these students develop the knowledge and skills required to be successful at this middle-stage and continue their development into strong researchers and teachers.
Through panel and roundtable discussions led by leading HR scholars, students will reflect on the process and lessons of research, teaching, and life in academia. Sessions will focus on:
• Transitioning to teaching
• Developing a scholarly profile
• Career development and career choices
The workshop will also provide participants the opportunity to interact with other PhD students, network with both senior and junior faculty, and stimulate an exchange of ideas and suggestions among participants.
In addition, this session will be followed by a joint meet-the-journal editors panel with participants in the other HR Division consortia.
How do I register? The consortium will be held on Saturday, August 11 from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There is no charge to attend, but interested students must register on-line by visiting the AOM PDW registration website. Drop-in attendance at the consortium is not allowed. For more information, please contact Corine Boon (c.t.boon@uva.nl).
We hope to see many of you there!
