SPECIAL ISSUE PMJ CAREERS OF PROJECT MANAGERS: WORKSHOP @ VU AMSTERDAM
Dear colleagues,
We are currently hosting a special issue at Project Management Journal about careers of project managers. With this special issue, we aim to bridge the literatures of career research and project management research. Please see the attached file for the full call for papers.
As a special service, we are also organizing a workshop at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam on March 22nd and March 23rd 2018. The workshop is specifically meant as a paper construction workshop, that is: we aim to support interested scholars to further craft and improve their research ideas and works-in-progress in preparation for submitting the papers to our special issue. All guest editors of the special issue will be present during the workshop to provide feedback and guidance. In addition, there will be two keynote contributions that will serve as stage setters for the workshop: Hans Georg Gemünden will share his vision about the important of integrating the career and project management literature. In addition, Jos Akkermans will share his invited paper (with Anne Keegan, Martina Huemann, and Claudia Ringhofer) for PMJ that provides an overview and inspiration for research on bridging the scholarly discussions between careers and project management.
The workshop is primarily aimed at paper construction for our special issue, yet we welcome different types of participants, ranging from attendees with full draft papers to attendees without papers who are interested in joining the discussion and helping their colleagues improve their work. More specifically, we would differentiate between:
- Attendees with full draft papers, who submit their work-in-progress to receive feedback and guidance on further increasing the fit with the special issue.
- Attendees with extended abstracts (i.e., around 1.000 words), containing at least a central research question and research methodology/approach. These submissions would still be in a relatively early stage of development and, as such, would mostly receive feedback and support about the core idea and intended research approach.
- Attendees without papers. If you are interested to join but do not have a paper, you are also very welcome. Your input will be very valuable in helping other people craft their papers!
Depending on the status of the submitted work, we will allocate more or less time for a presentation of your work and a subsequent discussion. Please note that the workshop is not a regular paper presentation conference: we do plan time for presentations, yet we especially value the discussion afterwards and guidance from both the guest editors and audience to further improve the submitted papers. Thus, we would like to give everyone ample time for their presentation and feedback to ensure a high-quality knowledge exchange.
Please note that the deadline for submitting your work to the workshop is March 9th 2018. The ultimate deadline for submitting full papers for the special issue is June 30th 2018. Please submit your work for the workshop to the following e-mail address: specialissuepmj.sbe@vu.nl (active from February 12th onwards), and include a clear subject line stating you are submitting your work for the workshop at VU Amsterdam.
Finally, please note that the final registration deadline is March 16th 2018. Registration is free of costs because PMI has been a great help in funding this workshop. Lunch and drinks will be provided during both days and are free of cost as well. More information about possible accommodations and traveling to and from Amsterdam can be obtained by sending your questions to specialissuepmj.sbe@vu.nl.
