    Everyone,

I'm looking for reading recommendations on how to identify and remove silos that may be preventing teams from working more efficiently.

Thank you for any suggestion you can share.

    Some Details:
    1) the concerned teams work under the same leadership
    2) our business is mostly video delivery, and aggregation
    3) company is very large, the majority of team members work in the same building
    4) there is leadership buyin

The following would be a nice start, as it identifies three common causes of silos, and some ways to break them down:

Lessard, D. R., & Zaheer, S. (1996). Breaking the silos: Distributed knowledge and strategic responses to volatile exchange rates. Strategic Management Journal, 17(7), 513–533. https://doi.org/10.1002/(SICI)1097-0266(199607)17:7<513::AID-SMJ832>3.0.CO;2-P

Patrick Lencioni's book – The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.  It's written as a 'fable' and is a quick and entertaining read – but the content and suggestions are excellent.  A good exercise is to give the book to all team members and then have a discussion with the whole team about the issues that may relate to your team and how to address them.

    Hi Richard,

McKinsey & Company has done a good bit of work/research on this topic (e.g., https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/organization/our-insights/making-collaboration-across-functions-a-reality). Perhaps searching some of their work or reaching out to them could be of help?

    Cheers,

    Jeremy

    Hi Richard,

The Center for Evidence-Based Management (https://www.cebma.org/) provides resources to help people answer questions such as yours. For example, CEMBA has a library of evidence-based summaries, training materials on topics such as asking questions and conducting systematic literature reviews,  and full-text access to journals.  The center also provides services for companies, such as Rapid Evidence Assessments.

Also, Meta-bus (http://metabus.org/)  is a great resource for searching I/O psychology literature on relationships between specific variables and conducting "bare-bones" meta-analyses.

    Best Regards,

    Jodi
