    Job Posting: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Management – Human Resources or Leadership 

     

    Description

     

    Due to significant enrollment growth in the Marilyn Davies College of Business, the Department of Management at the University of Houston-Downtown is seeking applicants for a tenure track position in Management with a focus in Human Resources (HR) or Leadership to begin either in spring or fall 2018.   Candidates may be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor levels. The Marilyn Davies College of Business is accredited by AACSB and enrolls approximately 2,500 undergraduate and more than 1,100 graduate students. 

    The ideal candidate should be student-centered, research-active and bring an innovative approach to teaching HR and Leadership related courses. The selected candidate is expected to teach courses in either the undergraduate or graduate programs.   In this position, the selected candidate will help the Dean of the Marilyn Davies College of Business to engage and interact with managers in the Houston business community in order to ensure resulting management course competencies parallel with industry needs. A successful candidate will be expected to further work with industry to facilitate placement of Marilyn Davies College of Business graduates.   

     

    Qualifications

     

    Candidates for the position should have a PhD or DBA in Management or an equivalent degree in a related field from an accredited school with a focus in HR or leadership.    ABDs are encouraged to apply, but would be expected to complete their degrees within one year from the beginning of their appointment.  Prior professional work experience or equivalent is required. A work history in one of Houston's primary business sectors would be a further advantage.    A terminal degree from an AACSB accredited school is preferred.  Senior level professional certificates would be an asset.  Applicants that are able to teach in related fields, e.g. change management, or organizational behavior management are highly desirable.  

    Candidates should provide evidence of excellence, or potential for excellence in effective teaching using a variety of methodologies and scholarly activity.  We encourage a pedagogical approach to teaching that emphasizes practical applications.  Applicants should exhibit a strong commitment to scholarly research in their discipline and a willingness to work with others in promoting the advancement of the university.  Faculty are expected to teach courses offered at the primary campus located in downtown Houston, as well off-campus locations located in suburban Houston.  The courses are offered during the day, evenings, and weekends, as needed to serve the students and may include, face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
