  • 1.  Transcendent Followership Symposium

    Posted 11-17-2017 15:23

    Dear Colleagues,

In preparation for the upcoming Academy of Management 2018 Annual Meeting, we are seeking theoretical, empirical, and methodological papers for our Strategic Followership presenter symposium on Transcendent Followership. Given the paucity of studies on transcendent followership, we are not seeking fully developed papers. To facilitate your decision-making process we are using the following working definitions (see Zoogah, 2014) of strategic followership - "the process by which an individual, encountering a strategic situation, discerns, and enacts the role of a follower based on shared interdependence to influence others in a way that yields short-term and/or long-term value to the constituents in the relational interface" – and transcendent followership – "centers on overcoming challenges and demonstrating extraordinary effort to advance the relationship with the leader."

Please submit your 2 – 5 summary page paper (excluding figures, tables, and references) to the organizers, David Zoogah (zoogahd@xavier.edu) and Erica Anthony (erica.anthony@morgan.edu). We will then select the papers that best fit the symposium focus of Transcendent Followership and is aligned with the AOM 2018 theme: Improving Lives.

Please submit your abstracts by 5pm on December 1, 2017. Our timeline is:

    · December 1, 2017: Short Abstracts Due

    · December 4, 2017: Papers selected

    · December 15, 2017: Draft of presenter symposium proposal provided

    · December 22, 2017: Organizers submit presenter symposium proposal

    Thanks,

    David Zoogah

    Erica Anthony

  • 2.  AOM symposium: Leader Self-Awareness

    Posted 11-18-2017 07:50

Call for 500 Word Abstracts: Improving Lives by Advancing the Study of Leader Self-Awareness

In preparation for the Academy of Management 2018 Annual Meeting and its theme of "Improving Lives", I would like to create a presenter symposium on the topic of leader self-awareness.

    see http://aom.org/annualmeeting/submission/guidelines/#symposiumguideline

The purpose of the symposium is to build on the existing field of research based on varying definitions and operationalizations of leader self-awareness, through presenting individual paper presentations of research in progress that intends to advance the field in some particular way, e.g., either adding domains of awareness or self, integrating prior conceptualizations, assessing validity and reliability of operationalizations and measurement instruments, testing the nomological network with prior measures, or estimating effects of leader self-awareness to improve lives. For this symposium, conceptual or empirical papers that link leader self-awareness to improving lives would be most appropriate.

Please submit your abstracts to me (twernsing@faculty.ie.edu) by December 3, 2017. Our timeline is:

    ·       December 3, 2017: Abstracts due (500 words).
    ·       December 6, 2017: Abstracts selected and notification completed.
    ·       December 16, 2017: Draft of presenter proposal due (up to 5 pages text and 2 pages of appendices).
    ·       December 20, 2017: Feedback for each presenter symposium proposal provided.
    ·       December 30, 2017: Final draft submitted for each presenter proposal to organizer.
    ·       January 2, 2018: Organizer submits presenter symposium proposal to AOM.

    best, Tara
