Dear colleagues,
We are organizing a symposium on the theme of potential negative antecedents and outcomes of psychological empowerment. A great deal of evidence has emerged around positive antecedents and outcomes of psychological empowerment and related constructs such as empowering leadership through meta-analytic and qualitative reviews. However, the possibilities that employees might be empowered to enact negative behaviors and outcomes, or that less positive antecedents might also create senses of empowerment, have received little attention. We believe engaging in a discussion of potential negative aspects of empowerment and empowering leadership is of theoretical and practical value, and can further improve our understanding of this construct.
If you have empirical research that fits any of the above mentioned topics and you are interested in participating in this AOM symposium, please inform me
(hamedgha@buffalo.edu) or Dr. Jim Lemoine
(jlemoine@buffalo.edu) before November 3rd, 2017. In your email, please provide a very brief description of your research and specify how you believe it is a good fit for this symposium. Papers can focus on potentially negative antecedents, processes, or outcomes. We are not imposing particular boundaries for papers to be able to cast a wider net and attract different perspectives.
Best Wishes,
Hamed Ghahremani
