    Job Announcement

    Background:

The Bachelor's Degree for Professionals program at California Lutheran University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership position beginning in the fall of 2018. Our campus is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and we are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multi-cultural and multi-racial communities. Cal Lutheran encourages applicants from any or no religious affiliation, and advocates for justice and fairness for all people. Cal Lutheran is an accredited, private, comprehensive university that engages students in critical inquiry and is dedicated to educating leaders for a global society. The campus is located midway between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, and is home to more than 2,800 undergraduate and 1,350 graduate students who come from 61 countries and represent a variety of faiths.  48.8% of Bachelor Degree for Professional students at Cal Lutheran are from underrepresented groups.

The Bachelor's Degree for Professionals Program is a student-centered learning community, designed to meet the educational needs of returning post-traditional learners (students who are 22 years or older, usually working adults).  We offer seven degrees, each supported by a strong curriculum that gives students the knowledge base they will need to enhance or pursue a career in industry or attend graduate school. Courses are offered in our accelerated bachelor's degree completion program in the evening at three locations: Thousand Oaks, Woodland Hills, and Oxnard.  (In addition to face-to-face courses, the Organizational Leadership major is currently also offered online.)

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual dedicated to advising and mentoring and closely working with post-traditional students, especially someone with experience in meeting the needs of our growing Latinx student body.  The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate courses in leadership, organizational behavior, and management, as well as other courses within the candidate's area of expertise.  Additional responsibilities will include working closely with a team of staff to support our post-traditional students and enhance our program, participating in university committees, representing the program and university to outside constituents (e.g. at community colleges), and serving as a liaison between our program and the School of Management.  The candidate will mainly teach, mentor, and advise a diverse population of post-traditional students at our Woodland Hills Center, but will also teach some undergraduate or graduate courses for the School of Management at the main campus in Thousand Oaks. Once acclimated to the program and institution, the expectation will be for the successful candidate to undertake some leadership responsibilities (e.g. serving as a department chair).

A completed PhD in Organizational Leadership or relevant discipline is required (ABDs with degree completion by September 2018 will be considered).  Evidence of quality teaching and mentoring, and experience working with a diverse student population, demonstrated potential for scholarly research, and established academic advising ability are vital qualifications.  Experience teaching post-traditional learners, the ability to design and teach blended/online courses, peer-reviewed journal publications, and demonstrated potential for leadership are desired.
