Increasing the relevance of organizational science to improve quality of life is a critical aim of management research. Consistent with the 2017 AOM conference theme, "At the interface", the purpose of the proposed PDW is to enhance participants' ability to draw from organizational theories and methods to advance implementation science and support the effectiveness and impact of organizations on quality of life. As the interface relates to "a common boundary or interconnection between systems, concepts or human beings (Random House Dictionary, 2016), the objective of the proposed PDW is to explicitly intersect theory and practices showcasing how specific organizational theories and methods can be used to address existing gaps in implementation knowledge and stakeholder priorities. This PDW will rely on a case-based approach moderated by an expert panel who will capitalize on the long tradition in organizational science to carefully explore, test and advance understanding of the actors, structures and dynamics of the adoption, implementation, dissemination and sustainment processes in organizations. In small groups, participants will be able to integrate promising approaches using organizational theory and methods to advance their implementation research agendas. Panel experts' background in organizational behavior and theory and experience leading federally funded research studies will make this PDW particularly relevant for a diverse group of AOM scholars. Panel experts also represent different levels of experience (Assistant, Associate and Full Professors) to showcase the stage of their research inquiry, as well as their unique role and contribution to implementation science. The PDW will encourage HCM division members and session participants to identify and advance paradigm development in implementation research and strengthen the relevance, predictability and impact of management practices on implementation outcomes.
We look forward to having this discussion with you.
Best regards,
Erick
