CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Southern Management Association (SMA) 2017 Pre-Doctoral Consortium
SMA's Pre-Doctoral consortium will be held at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida on Wednesday October 25, 2017 as part of the Annual Meeting of the Southern Management Association. Consortium participants are encouraged, but not required, to attend the remainder of the SMA Annual Meeting, which runs from October 26 – 28, 2017.
The Pre-doctoral consortium is a program designed to help those who are committed to, or are seriously considering, earning a doctoral degree in management. The goals of the Consortium include: (1) helping students to gain a better understanding of key factors to consider in applying to doctoral programs, and (2) to provide students with a "realistic preview" of life as a doctoral student and faculty member. The consortium will feature nationally recognized scholars who will lead panel sessions and round table discussions on such topics as "How to decide which programs are right for me," "The ins and outs of grad school applications," and "Life as a doctoral student and beyond."
In addition, opportunities for networking with current doctoral students, faculty, and PhD program directors are built into the program. SMA will provide breakfast and lunch on the day of the consortium as well. If that is not enough encouragement to attend, SMA is awarding $500 stipends to help with travel expenses[1]!
The deadline for consortium application is JUNE 30th, 2017. To apply, applicants should submit the following documents all in one email to Frankie Weinberg (weinberg@loyno.edu) with the words "PRE-DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM APPLICATION" in the subject line of the email:
(1) a letter of application that includes a personal statement detailing interest and experience,
(2) a current curriculum vitae (CV) or resume,
(3) a copy of their driver's license or other government photo ID that verifies that the applicant will have attained the age of 21 on or before October 25, 2017,
(4) A recommendation letter from a member of their (current or former) faculty
(the recommendation letter can be sent either from the applicant in the application email or separately from the faculty member, also due by the June 30 deadline).
If you have questions about the application process, please contact Dr. Frankie Weinberg (Loyola University New Orleans), Pre-Doctoral Consortium Coordinator at weinberg@loyno.edu.
[1] Stipends are awarded competitively to up to 20 participants; a limited number of additional seats for non-funded participants may be available. Participants must attend the entire one-day consortium program in order to receive their funding.
