    Dear all,

Could you please recommend peer-reviewed articles/good resources on building self-confidence? I'd like to take a 'deep dive' in the literature and identify practical strategies for enhancing self-confidence (at work) that are research-based. Thought this would be a great place to start. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Sofia

I recommend the book The Confidence Code. It is written by correspondents Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. Their question comes at building confidence by wondering why women have issues with this quality. It is well-researched and based on conversations with social and biological scientists. It would introduce you to a wide array of experts as a way into the peer-reviewed literature. It also draws practical conclusions.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Sofia,

Bandura's work on self-efficacy (social cognitive theory) is a good place to start. One way to build self-efficacy is through progressive mastery (e.g., Bandura and Jourden, 1991), but his theory and empirical research show other antecedents as well.

Out of experience I have found that self-confidence is an issue particularly at upper echelons of the organization however, it is not really low self-confidence but the opposite over confidence.

This book can be of good value!

The little book on big ego: A guide to Manage and control the egomaniacs in your life by Joel Epstein (2006)

    Great for self-awareness
