These posts are primarily associated with The Department of Management in DUBS, which is one of three 'research-led' departments who share the ambition to advance world changing knowledge and secure global impact through increasingly collaborative research across disciplines with colleagues in Durham University and beyond. We will seek to contribute perspectives that enhance the utility and impact of research in other disciplines with perspectives and methods that promote a more equitable and sustainable future for all. As a department that is continuously seeking to develop challenges of both rigour and relevance, we publish our work in internationally outstanding journals and disseminate it beyond the academy. We are in the process of renewing a number of clusters of global excellence in management disciplines (e.g. leadership, strategy, technology, entrepreneurship) that blend fundamental research with the co-creation of new knowledge through business and societal engagement.
We seek to further enhance our standing within the academic community while ensuring that our research provides even greater benefits to wider society – both in terms of business and equitable futures for all. In support of our aim to build upon and improve our success, the School is developing existing strengths including investing in Faculty. As such; the School has positions available from Lecturer (Assistant Professor) through to Chair; our focus is on the appointment of outstanding colleagues.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding international reputation for their research and an exceptional track record of academic leadership, teaching and administration. They will be expected to demonstrate the highest professional standards in both research and education, and to attract excellent research students to Durham.
We welcome applications from exceptional scholars with research and teaching interests in Management, specifically encompassing intellectual prowess in the following:
Leadership, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Technology Management. The post title of the successful candidate will be in accordance with their area of expertise.
The School has a generous policy on supporting international conference attendance and a seedcorn fund to support small research projects and seminars. The University policy on Research Leave will allow the successful candidate to apply for leave for one term in every seven. There is some University funding for travel available on a competitive basis to support research activity during a period of such leave.
The Business School is committed to research-led teaching with a commitment to improving its reputation for high quality education which stretches students to achieve the highest standards, and to realise their potential to make an impact on the world. The Business School currently has a presence on the Durham City campus, a short distance from the historical Durham city centre; and at the Queens campus site in the riverside town of Stockton. The main School building on the Durham City campus was opened in September 2013, newly refurbished and extended. It houses several state-of-the-art lecture theatres providing flexible options for teaching, new breakout spaces for induvial and group projects, and a contemporary dining area – alongside numerous sustainable features – which make it a truly world-class facility. Improved business facilities enable us to engage with more corporate partners and host events ranging from small groups to conferences for several hundred delegates.

Job Description and Purpose
The appointed posts will expand our research and teaching activities in their respective field to build upon our existing teaching and research strengths.
The successful candidates will be expected to have an intellectually challenging and significant research agenda and be able to bring such an agenda to bear in their teaching. They need not necessarily come from a conventional business school background. We are also keen to attract individuals who have an innovative approach to undergraduate and postgraduate education. There may also be opportunities for contributions to the Business School's Distance Learning and Distance-Taught programmes. Supervision of dissertations and projects will form part of the responsibilities of the post.
Responsibilities
The persons appointed to these posts will be expected to undertake the following duties:
· pursue research that is world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour and will be commensurate with the School's continuing emphasis on international excellence;
· to have clear plans for the pursuit of suitable national and international funding opportunities to support research and end-user engagement;
· play a leading role in relevant teaching and research supervision, and contribute to ongoing curriculum development;
· to contribute to the quality of the research environment both in the School and in the wider University through collaborative research activity;
· to demonstrate clear leadership or excellent leadership potential and be willing to take on a key role in the administrative work of the School;
· to demonstrate academic leadership in shaping the future of the discipline/sub-discipline within the Business School, the University and within the international scholarly community; and be willing to assist in the School's work of engagement and impact with non-academic bodies;
· to offer lectures, seminars and tutorials on at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, with the opportunity to teach more widely within the Department. S/he will also examine and assess student work;
· be expected to attract and supervise research students, and to enhance the School's commitment to its vibrant and international postgraduate culture.
· Carry out such other duties as specified by the Head of Department.
Person Specification
Essential
1. Outstanding academic qualifications in Management or related fields.
2. A strong sustained record of published academic output at world-leading levels of recognition.
3. A research funding profile, or potential to develop such a profile, commensurate to the level of the post and disciplinary context.
4. Evidence of disciplinary leadership within the international community and at institutional level.
5. Evidence of strong teaching ability in the field of Management or related discipline (including Organisational Behaviour, Strategy and Leadership)
6. Excellent leadership skills, coupled with drive and ability to make a significant contribution to the School, the University and the international academic scholarly community.
7. A record of applications made for external funding (through research grants and other sources) for personal and/or collaborative research.
8. A record of innovation and development of research initiatives, including collaboration, and the capacity to see them through to timely and successful completion.
9. Evidence of excellent supervision and teaching skills and keen interest in teaching and learning development.
10. Evidence of potential to provide leadership within a top research department coupled with the drive and ability to make a significant contribution more broadly within the University.
11. Understanding of the significance of engagement with, and impact upon, bodies beyond the university sector.
12. Evidence of the capacity to attract postgraduate research students.
13. Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-working skills.
Desirable
1. Evidence of contribution to the profession and to the development of the discipline of Management through, for example, organising conferences, serving on committees of learned societies, membership of research council and funding panels, and editorial work.
2. Commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaborative work across disciplines.
3. The ability to work with external, non-university organisations in developing the benefits of research for a variety of audiences.
4. Experience of senior leadership roles within an academic department or more widely within a university.
5. Evidence of the ability to enhance the School's international profile.
6. Evidenced commitment to the peer review, mentoring and guidance of other academic staff.
7. The ability to think strategically and articulate a vision to colleagues.
