As we become a more diverse world, our organizations of higher education need to be transformed to adapt to the changing demographics and ideas of a new generation of students and employees. Women in higher education still lag behind men as full professors and there is a glass ceiling effect for women in roles such as university presidents and other top level university administrators. In 2011 there was a total 20.7% of full-time instructional minority faculty in degree-granting institutions, including those who were Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaska Native and of two or more races. The number of Baby Boomers (ages 52-70) is declining and being replaced by Generation X (ages 34-51) and Millennials (ages 33 and younger). This shift changes how one thinks and acts in organizations and affects technology, communication and even the reward and recognition system of the organization. All of these are facets of organizational culture which provides the foundation for how groups of people perceive and react to their environment. This PDW will explore techniques and best practices to change organizational culture in higher education for diversity inclusiveness.
