Program Session: 1024 | Sponsor(s): (CAU)
Scheduled: Monday, Aug 8 2016 11:30AM - 1:00PM at Anaheim Marriott in Platinum Ballroom 5
Designing Meaningful Work, Leadership and Organizations in a Digitized World: A Research Incubator
Organizers: Tanja Schwarzmüller, Prisca Brosi & Isabell M. Welpe, Technical University of Munich
Discussants: Sharon K. Parker, University of Western Australia
Arvind Malhotra, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Timothy Golden, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Melissa Mazmanian, University of California, Irvine
Goals: Due to the digitization of all life domains, the world of work changes dramatically (Grant & Parker, 2009). Introducing new information technologies fundamentally shifts the conditions under which work is done (Parker, Wall, & Cordery, 2001). Against this background, this caucus aims to be a research incubator by using participants' expert knowledge to discuss the changes that information technology implies for the future of work as well as the measures that can be taken to make work meaningful in a digitized world. The main questions we aim to discuss are:
1. How does work change in a digitized work?
2. Which opportunities and risks do these changes imply for employees, leaders and organizations as a whole?
3. Which measures can leaders and organizations take to make work in a digitized world meaningful?
Looking forward to seeing you at the caucus,
Isabell M. Welpe, Prisca Brosi & Tanja Schwarzmüller
