If you are a PhD student who has finished your comprehensive exams (or has finished your 2nd year), we hope you will join us for the 8th annual Halfway There PDW at AoM 2016.
Halfway There, But Now What? Advice for Pre-Dissertation Doctoral Students (8th Annual)
Saturday, August 6
8:00AM - 12:00PM
Anaheim Convention Center, Room 204C
The 3rd and 4th years of a doctoral program can seem like a difficult and mysterious time for many students. Most mid-stage doctoral students are no longer required to attend courses. They are expected to begin to structure their own activities and make progress on independent research. Many students struggle to find a foothold in this kind of environment. Although the New Doctoral Consortium sponsored by AoM and the Senior Student Doctoral Consortium and New Mentor Networking and Research Forum sponsored by the OB division are extremely valuable in their own right, none are positioned to address the unique circumstances faced by pre-dissertation doctoral students. This PDW was specifically designed to cover topics relevant to mid-stage doctoral students. Leading OB scholars will provide their perspectives on topics such as Launching the Dissertation Process, Understanding the Job Market Process, and Preparing to Teach Your First Class. Following the presentation, time is allotted for attendees to ask the presenters questions and engage in an interactive discussion. The PDW also features a roundtable session with top new assistant professors, which will allow participants to ask questions and discuss career issues in a smaller-group environment.
