About the role: The position is to be the primary full-time organisational behaviour researcher on a WA State Health Department Research Translation project. The project evaluates the direct and indirect cost savings of multidisciplinary pre-operative briefings in surgery; an innovative practice that is currently infrequently used within WA hospitals. The project includes a field study and a simulation study. The field study will include 100 - 120 surgical teams from Fiona Stanley (FSH). The research will compare the effectiveness of surgical teams with and without briefings. Briefing quality will also be assessed and linked to outcomes. The simulation study will be conducted at UWA's CTEC (http://www.ctec.uwa.edu.au/#). It will have an experimental design in which the efficiency and effectiveness of simulated surgical teams with and without briefings will be systematically. The successful applicant will need to work closely with the inter-disciplinary research team leading this project, and will report to Professor Sharon K. Parker.
RESEARCH TRANSLATION PROJECTS
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
· Relevant PhD qualification in organisational psychology / organisational behavior or a closely related discipline
· Experience conducting applied organisational and field-based research, ideally within the medical context
· Experience in a range of research methods such as designing, conducting and interpreting interviews, surveys, and experiments
· Track record of using initiative and working in professional manner
· Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including evidence of high quality teaching or facilitation
· Academic understanding of topics such as communication, voice, teamwork, ideally within a medical setting
· Experience conducting multivariate statistical analyses including structural modelling and multilevel analysis
· Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders including health partners and to work in a research team
· Ability to contribute to and lead scholarly papers in the field of organizational psychology/ behaviour
· Willingness and ability to supervise honours and masters students in organisational psychology and/or organizational behaviour, and possibly also medical research students.
