Associate Professor / Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Organizational Communication (PR234/15-16)
The Department of Communication Studies is a component of the School of Communication, the largest and the most diverse of its kind in Hong Kong. The department, consisting of organizational communication, public relations, advertising and branding programmes, offers an interdisciplinary, collaborative academic environment. The Department now invites applications for a faculty opening in its Organizational Communication programme starting 1 September 2016. The successful candidate should have relevant expertise, experience, and ability to teach courses in at least one of the following areas: (i) leadership communication (e.g. entrepreneurship, management trainee), (ii) organizational communication (e.g. organizational training and development, organizational decision making and problem), and (iii) event communication (e.g. project management, service management). The medium of instruction is English. Familiarity with Chinese culture is a plus.
We seek an empirical scholar who has a solid track record of research publications in organizational/management communication. The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in communication or a relevant field (e.g. management, organizational psychology, social psychology). This is an academic research position at the rank of Associate Professor / Assistant Professor. ABD candidates nearing the completion will be considered as Lecturer initially. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda, produce quality research outputs, and seek competitive external funding (despite availability of internal funding within the university). He/She will make significant contributions to both teaching and research.
Alternatively, the position may be filled with a teaching staff as Senior Lecturer or Lecturer. The successful candidate must hold a Master's degree in communication or a relevant field - PhD degree desirable, be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching, and enjoy interaction with students. Relevant industry/professional experiences are extremely welcome. He/She will assist in recruiting and supervising undergraduate students, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in networking with broader professional communities locally and internationally.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing September 2016. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
