  • 1.  Materials on Peer Review?

    Posted 02-15-2016 12:51
    Hi all-

As part of the new editorial team at the Journal of Vocational Behavior, I am in the process of preparing reviewer guidelines (advice, tips, strategies) to be provided to our reviewers.

I have my own favorite articles on reviewing (attached) but wanted to see if there were any additional "favorites" out there (I'm not looking for a comprehensive list of everything ever written on the subject of peer review...just those articles you have found to be particularly enlightening).

If you have any resources you think would be helpful, please send them my way. I will gladly compile and send a complete list to the group.

    Thanks!

    Liz

Those are good, I like the APSSC one as it is easy to follow.

I am a big fan of the attached article, as it is also simple and to the point (Being Developmental)

    Feldman, D. C., 2004.  On being a developmental reviewer, Journal of Management, 30(2), 161-164

    Hello Liz,

A while ago someone (I believe Brad Bell) recommended the following book chapter to me:

Hollenbeck, J. R. (2008). The role of editing in knowledge development: Consensus shifting and consensus creation. In Opening the black box of editorship (pp. 16-26). Palgrave Macmillan UK.

I think it is a great read and useful for authors, reviewers, and editors alike.

    David

I've found Gary Ballinger and Russell Johnson's four R's (Respect, Reasons, Recommendations, and Recognition) to be helpful. Described on pages 318-319 of this AMR from the editor:

Ballinger, G. A., & Johnson, R. E. (2015). Editors' comments: Your first AMR review. Academy of Management Review, 40, 315-322.

    Dear Liz and colleagues,

Here are some more references. David Harrison's editorial is simply a lot of fun to read, and Paul Hempel's article is the best and more comprehensive one I know.
