  • 1.  Attitude manipulation in scenario writing and check

    Dear Colleagues,

I would be really very happy to get some reference articles that can be used for attitude manipulation by scenario writing. And I would also like to know how the manipulation can be checked. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,
    Saidur

    Dear Saidur,

Perhaps you can clarify what you mean by an attitude manipulation? I think the stereotype change literature has more often used scenarios than the attitude change literature.

If it may be helpful, I created a scenario based on the stereotype change literature which can assess attitude change about a fictitious out-group and their related charecteristics and you may be able to tweak it for your needs. The manipulation check assess whether participants changed their attitudes relative to their baseline attitude towards the outgroup.

Stefania Paolini also has a similar method for assessing stereotype change among real-world groups using the hour estimation task (Paolini, Crisp, & McIntyre, 2009).

    Good luck,
    Shira

    Saidur,

The following article offers specific advice regarding the manipulation of attitudes and many other types of variables in vignette/scenario studies (available at http://mypage.iu.edu/~haguinis/pubs.html):

    ·       Aguinis, H., & Bradley, K. J. 2014. Best-practice recommendations for designing and implementing experimental vignette methodology studies. Organizational Research Methods, 17: 351-371.

    I hope this helps!

    All the best,
