    Subject: Clay Alderfer has died

    Dear Yale OB friends:

Carol Schreiber told me yesterday, based on a communication Sunday from Kenwyn Smith, that Clay had died last Friday. I volunteered to inform some of the people on the SoM roster of persons with graduate OB degrees from Yale who should also be informed. Unknown to me, Clay had had some serious health problems-their nature also unknown to me-over the past year or so. His memorial service and burial will be tomorrow afternoon in Bethlehem, PA-see Kenwyn's message below. This is extremely sad news.

    Kenwyn's message:

    Greetings all,

I am aware and grateful that over the weekend the sad news of Clay's death on Friday has circulated far and wide among those who have cherished him as a beloved friend, gifted mentor and generous colleague.

David Berg, Sara and I spent much of Sat afternoon and early evening with Charleen, Kate and Ben.  Their New Jersey home was filled with loving warmth, quiet acceptance, understandable sadness and deep gratitude that Clay's physical ordeal was over and that the final passage from this life was quiet and peaceful.

Although my head and heart is very full (as I am sure yours is too) of memories, thoughts and feelings about Clay, tonight I am writing just to pass along a message from the family.

Everyone who wishes and is able to attend is invited to join the family on Wed, 4 Nov for a service celebrating Clay's life, to be held at

    Long Funeral Home,

    500 Linden

    Bethlehem, PA 18108

(Please see http://www.longfuneralhome.com if you need further data)

The afternoon will be structured as follows.

1 pm The Calling Hour (with opportunity to greet the family)

    2 pm The Service

I believe this will be followed by the Burial and a chance for the gathered community to mingle at a nearby place yet to be announced.

    Kind regards

    Kenwyn
