    Dear OB List,

On behalf of my collaborator Professor Angela Duckworth, I would like to share a post-doc position at UPenn. This will be a neat opportunity and I hope eligible candidates will apply. Please feel free to forward this ad along. We will be looking through applications as they come.

Prof. Angela Duckworth (Psychology) and the Duckworth Lab at the University of Pennsylvania are looking to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow to play a key role in two ongoing research projects. 1) To develop psychometrically sound, scalable, and accessible grit/self-control performance task measures. We are looking to apply these measures in a secondary school setting and overcome psychometric issues sourced from subjective judgments such as reference bias. 2) To analyze a data set from over half-a-million college applicants. Specifically, we want to predict college persistence from a battery of academic (e.g., SAT, ACT, GPA), experiential (e.g., extracurricular/work experience), and psychological (inferred from lexical analysis) indicators.

This work, joint with a team of computer scientists, psychologists, and professional educators, will require an individual with substantive expertise in employing advanced quantitative methods or experience working with adolescents in school contexts. Results will be published in a variety of psychology, educational, and research methods venues.

    Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

    ·        Leading ongoing and newly-established research projects

    ·        Collaborating closely with research coordinators assigned to the project

    ·        Analyzing data using advanced statistical modeling

    ·        Preparing publications for a large research grant

    ·        Presenting findings at national scientific conferences

    Qualifications and Skill/Experiences:

    ·        Ph.D. from an accredited university in Psychology or a related social sciences field

    ·        Experience relating to research in psychometrics and personality

    ·        Outstanding quantitative and applied research skills

    ·        Strong oral and written communication skills

    ·        Demonstrated proficiency in programming using statistical software (e.g., Stata, SAS, SPSS, or R)

    ·        Experience with measurement development and validation, structural equation modeling, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and meta-analysis

    ·        Experience planning research projects including conducting systematic literature reviews, analytical conceptualization and protocol development

    ·        Experience with core responsibilities surrounding expansive data sets (e.g., data management, cleaning, organization)

    ·        Demonstrated experience preparing conference presentations, research findings, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals

    ·        A two-year commitment required, but opportunities available to stay

    Application Process

Applicants should go to http://duckworthlab.applytojob.com/apply/r2T7Ia/PostDoctoral-Fellow-At-The-Duckworth-Lab to apply for the position. Please be prepared to submit a cover letter, CV, names and contact information for three references, and two reprints/preprints. Note: There is not a specific section to submit the manuscripts, so please add them to the end of your cover letter. Review of applications will begin immediately. Approximate start date will be January 2016, but this date is flexible. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE/Affirmative Action Employer.
