Dear OB-listserv members (cross-posted to the Academy of Management's HR division and the Self-Determination Theory mailing lists),
My colleagues and I are reviewing the self-determination theory literature on basic psychological needs at work. To get a precise overview, we're trying to collect published and unpublished data on basic need satisfaction – i.e., the needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness among employees.
We have coded the published articles, and now we are looking for unpublished data as well as any papers that might be in press. If you have any data that fits this description, we would appreciate receiving information you might have on the following:
- The correlation of the need satisfaction scales with each other ;
- The correlations of the need satisfaction scales with any other variables in your data set (including antecedent/outcome/control variables, as well as demographic variables);
- The alphas for, and source of, any measures you provide (e.g., if you examined job satisfaction, noting if it is the Brayfield-Rothe scale, Job in General scale, etc.);
- Finally, any information on the method including sample size, study design (e.g. cross-sectional vs. multi-wave), sample type (e.g. one occupation or various).
If you could provide us with this information, my colleagues and I would definitely appreciate it – we can then use it in our review and cite you accordingly. We know answering these sorts of requests can take up some of your time, so again, we definitely would appreciate your efforts! And of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks again,
Lance Ferris (on behalf of Anja Van den Broeck, Christopher Rosen, & Daisy Chang)
