    Hello,

I am looking for suggestions and ideas on assessments or inventories that gauge a person's career interests, values, and/or orientation.  Those ideas that you think would appeal to an Executive MBA audience would be particularly useful.

    Thanks so much!  Lisa

    Lisa,

We use the VIA survey in our masters program on leadership and organizational change.  It used to be called the values in action survey and it is free.  http://www.viacharacter.org/www/The-Survey#nav  It is helpful for identifying what people value most - my highest score was for fairness and equity for example.  Once they have their top five values or character strengths they can try to incorporate them into aspects of work and life.

The survey was developed by positive psychology researchers and was funded by the Mayerson Foundation in Cincinnati, OH.

    Dear Lisa,

The National O*NET Resource Center has several assessment tools that target interests and values (e.g., the O*NET Interest Profiler and its short form, the O*NET Work Importance Profiler). These assessments were developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Labor and are directly linked to the O*NET database for over 900 U.S. occupations stratified by job zones (job complexity/level of education/training) to assist individuals in their career exploration. They are all in the public domain and are free for everybody to use.

I have summarized these O*NET assessments and their links here: http://www.rongsu.org/resources.html. Hope this is helpful!

    Best regards,
    Rong

    Dear Lisa et al,

If you have a budget, Career Leader (https://www.careerleader.com/)
is, in my opinion, the best option out there. They're used by the
majority of top MBA programs. But it is pricey.

P.S. - I've used VIA and the ONET interest profiler in the past.

    Cheers,
    Will

    Lisa,,
The Center for Applied Cognitive Studies has a personality too AS WELL AS A VALUES assessment.  I have used the former extensively, and the later to a limited extent.  The
