Emotions-oriented colleagues,
My understanding is that the MSCEIT is one of the most well-regarded emotional intelligence (EI) measures. I bring an article to your attention because some hold that the journal Intelligence is of little importance for the field of management and you might not read it.
Legree, P.J., Psotka, J., Robbins, J., Roberts, R.D., Putka, D.J. & Mullins, H.M. (2014). Profile Similarity Metrics as an Alternate Framework to Score Rating-Based Tests: MSCEIT Reanalyses, Intelligence, 47, 159-174.
The paper suggests that the MSCEIT is non-optimally scored. It also suggests that when scored more reasonably, the MSCEIT appears to be a measure of general cognitive ability.
This is not to say that emotions are irrelevant but that some EI measures are non-optimal for measuring this alleged construct.
Best wishes,
Mike
