I don't know if 5 items will provide the coverage necessary, since so far, researchers have mostly presented SDRB as concept supported by multiple factors. However, Reynolds did shorten Marlowe-Crowne's original instrument into several combinations and reported the subsequent validity, internal reliability, etc. Please check:

Reynolds, W. M. (1982). Development of reliable and valid short forms of the Marlowe-Crowne social desirability scale. Journal of Clinical Psychology, 38(1), 119-125.

I have often used the Hays et al (1989) five-item measure.  The items and scoring procedure are included in the following reference.

Hays, R.D., Hayashi, T., Stewart, A.L. (1989). A five-item measure of socially desirable response set. Educational and Psychological Measurement, 49, 629-636

    Ranjeet,

Are you looking to measure social desirability or are you looking to identify careless responding? If it's the latter of the two, take a look at:

Meade, A.W. & Craig, S.B. (2012). Identifying careless responses in survey data. Psychological Methods, 17, 437-455.

Some really interesting options – including one item measures.

    Cheers,

    Jeremy
