    Hello Josephine,

    Here is one option:

    Ethical Leadership:

Listens to what employees have to say.

Disciplines employees who violate ethical standards.

Conducts his/her personal life in an ethical manner.

Has the best interests of employees in mind.

    Makes fair and balanced decisions.

    Can be trusted.

Discusses business ethics or values with employees.

Sets an example of how to do things the right way in terms of ethics.

Defines success not just by results but also the way they are obtained.

Asks "what is the right thing to do?" when making decisions.

perspective for construct development and testing. Organizational Behavior and Human

                    Decision Processes, 97: 117– 134.

leadership, and why does it matter? An examination of antecedents and consequences of

outcomes among management accountants. Journal of Business Ethics, 38, 263 – 275.

    Good luck!

    Dear Josephine,

You are probably aware of Victor & Cullen's original measure of ethical climate, introduced along with their conceptualization of the construct and their typology in these two works:

Victor, B., & Cullen, J. B. 1987. A theory and measure of ethical climate in organizations. In W. C. Frederick (Ed.), Research in corporate social performance and policy, 5171. Greenwich, CT: JAI Press.

Victor, B., & Cullen, J. B. 1988. The organizational bases of ethical work climates. Administrative Science Quarterly, 33(1): 101125.

I find that it is often still used, although the factor structure is often not exactly replicated. Here are some recent examples:

Schminke, M., Ambrose, M. L., & Neubaum, D. O. 2005. The effect of leader moral development on ethical climate and employee attitudes. Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, 97(2): 135151.

Ambrose, M. L., Arnaud, A., & Schminke, M. 2008. Individual moral development and ethical climate: The influence of personorganization fit on job attitudes. Journal of Business Ethics, 77(3): 323333.

The following review may help you identify other measures that have been developed:

    Martin, K. D., & Cullen, J. B. 2006. Continuities and extensions of ethical climate theory: A meta-analytic review. Journal of Business Ethics, 69(2): 175194.

    best regards,
    'Alim

    Hi Josephine,

When it comes to asking "what's the right thing to do" I will check whether the individual checks the tough decisions with him or herself! This is based on the notion that we can probably fool many people but "we cannot fool the man on the mirror." (or woman)!

    Thanks,

    Ivan
