Hi Nicole,
what works well for my classes is the EIS simulation from INSEAD. Note
there are various alternative simulations on the market, some of which
are newer, but the EIS simulation focuses on getting "buy-in" from
Stakeholders, i.e. breaching resistance to adopt to change/innovation,
and therefore meshes nicely with OB materials on this front, as well as
Rogers innovation-adoption framework. As the EIS simulation targets
these issues at Meso level, i follow this up with a session on the
interpersonal mechanics of buy in, i.e. the "necessary art of
persuasion" (Conger), where we analyze (excerpts) from the 12-angry men
film. After class discussions, I get participants to zoom in on their
own change management projects, apply class contents, and debate in the
forum the "tough cases" where class theory falls short. Either after or
prior (works better) to this change management block, participants are
asked to analyze a change management issue they faced in their own
organization (including identification of the root causes of the
problems, the approach taken, a critical analysis of the approach and
possible alternative approaches, and a conclusive reflection). This can
be a marked assignment. Works well at MBA level, and very well at
Executive MBA level/Exec Ed courses. I have run this either as part of a
core, or in 1-day/2-day courses.
good luck!
