    Dear Colleagues (apologies for cross posting)

     

    My collaborator and I are looking for a generic climate (e.g. team climate) scale and or a climate that may promote individual or team motivation.  If you are aware of any scale that may be useful in measuring the above variables, please share it with us .

    Dear Remi,
     You might be interested in looking on the following measures (I have adopted them for my executive coaching effectiveness study as determinants of coaching outcomes):

    The support of three different organisational social groups in managers' training efforts was measured using Facteau et al's (1995) scales. These groups included the managers' subordinates, peers, and supervisors. Items were developed based on previous studies (e.g. Baldwin & Ford, 1988; Baumgartel & Jeanpierre, 1972; Clark, 1990; Goldstein & Musicante, 1986; Noe, 1986) .  In general, these items were designed to measure the extent to which these three sources (a) provided opportunities for managers to utilise trained skills, (b) were supportive of managers' efforts to apply trained skills back on the job (e.g. were tolerant of mistakes), and (c) reinforced managers' efforts to transfer skills to their job situation. The subordinate support measure consists of five items. A representative item from this scale is: "My subordinates believe that training is an important use of my time". All items are answered using a five-point rating scale ranging from (1)=strongly disagree to (5)=strongly agree. The coefficient alpha of .77 was recorded for this measure in Facteau et al's (1995) study, and .88 for phase one in my study. The peer support measure consists of four items. A representative item from this scale is: "My peers encourage my efforts to incorporate new procedures that I have learned in training". All items are answered using a five-point rating scale ranging from (1)=strongly disagree to (5)=strongly agree. The coefficient alpha of .81 was recorded for this measure in Facteau et al's (1995) study, and .80 for phase one in my study. The supervisor support measure consists of ten items. A representative item from this scale is: "My supervisor is tolerant of changes that I initiate as a result of learning new skills in training". All items are answered using a five-point rating scale ranging from (1)=strongly disagree to (5)=strongly agree. The coefficient alpha of .90 was recorded for this measure in Facteau et al's (1995) study, and .91for phase one  in the my study.
    Job support was measured using Tracey and Tews's' (2005) job support scale (which is subscale in their general training climate scale)  designed to measure the degree to which jobs are designed to promote continuous learning and provide flexibility for acquiring new knowledge and skills. The measure consists of five items. A representative item from this scale is: "Job assignments are designed to promote development". All items are answered using a five-point rating scale ranging from (1) =strongly disagree to (5) =strongly agree. The coefficient alpha of.85 was recorded for this measure in Tracey and Tews' (2005) study, and .81 for phase one my study.
