Hi Hannah,
An article that two co-authors (Greg Stewart, Marcia Ward) and I recently published in Organizational Dynamics takes a somewhat different angle on the HR research-practice gap. Specifically, it identifies reasons why practitioners struggle to implement evidence-based management initiatives, even when the practitioners are well aware that the concepts they are trying to implement in the organization are backed by sound research evidence. The paper involves a comparative case study on the airline and health care industries with regard to evidence-based team safety training. Here is the reference:
Courtright, S.H., Stewart, G.L., & Ward, M.M. (2012). Applying research to save lives: Learning from team training approaches in aviation and health care. Organizational Dynamics, 41, 291-301.
I don't know if the article will be helpful for your upcoming course, but just in case, I thought I'd pass it along. Good luck!

International replications of Rynes et al. are:
Carless, S. A., Rasiah, J., & Irmer, B. E. (2009). Discrepancy between
human resource research and practice: Comparison of
industrial/organisational psychologists and human resource
practitioners' beliefs. Australian Psychologist, 44, 105-111.
doi:10.1080/00050060802630015
Sanders, K., van Riemsdijk, M., & Groen, B. (2008). The gap between
research and practice: A replication study on the HR professionals'
beliefs about effective human resource practices. The International
Journal of Human Resource Management, 19, 1976-1988.
doi:10.1080/09585190802324304
In the training area, the gap seems to be smaller, see:

of training transfer research findings: Closing the gap between research
and practice. International Journal of Training and Development, 11,
