Leadership Quarterly Special Issue Call for Papers

Collective and Network Approaches to Leadership

Guest Editors: Kristin L. Cullen & Francis J. Yammarino

This special issue invites submissions that examine the formal and informal leadership of and underlying collectives, networks, and systems. Substantial progress in theory development regarding how collectives engage in leadership has occurred, with approaches emphasizing the importance of informal leadership, which can emerge or reside in systems and network connections among people with shared work. Greater testing and theory refinement is needed. Empirical articles employing rigorous quantitative or qualitative methods with a focus on collective leadership, leadership networks, or leaders understanding and use of networks and systems for collective leadership are welcome as submissions to this special issue as are exemplary theoretical, conceptual, narrative review and methodological papers. The relationship between networks and systems and individual leader's success is not the focus of the special issue. However, articles addressing leader's role in building collective leadership through the development of networks and systems as well as articles examining collective leadership and leadership networks and their development and consequences are welcome. Manuscripts that connect formal and collective leadership and studies that take a longitudinal perspective with a focus on collective leadership development are of particular interest.

Deadline for submission of manuscripts is February 1, 2015.
