There has been a great deal of discussion in recent years about the importance of effectively communicating scholarly research findings to non-academic audiences. Discussions on this topic, however, generally focus on mediums such as practitioner journals, blogs, books, and consulting reports-all of which can take a significant amount of time away from research and tend to go unrewarded by institutions. The primary objective of this PDW is to bring greater attention to one of the most impactful, time-effective, yet least utilized mediums for communicating research findings to non-academic audiences: the news media. Through a panel of scholars who have experience publishing top- tier research covered extensively by the media, as well as a journalist with extensive experience writing about management research, the PDW will help researchers to (1) understand the benefits and potential drawbacks of having research covered in the media, (2) gain knowledge of the process by which research is picked up by the news media and the type of research most likely to be covered by the news media, and (3) know how to effectively communicate research findings to journalists in a way that grabs their interest yet ensures that the research findings are interpreted accurately.
