    Hello all,

I am writing to invite you to participate in a symposium my colleagues and I are pulling together for the 2013 Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Conference on issues related to leadership and virtuality/geographic distribution. We're hoping to create a session that updates our understanding of current issues regarding virtuality/geographic distribution and leadership, especially in terms of sharing leadership in these environments. While we are particularly interested in this form of collective leadership, we are taking a systems approach to understanding leadership in these complex environments and therefore are open to contributions examining individual, team, unit, and organizational level phenomenon, and ideally, the connections between levels. We're looking for empirical and theoretical work examining a wide range of topics at any of these levels (e.g., leader behaviors, leadership style, measurement issues, interventions that improve leadership in virtual/distributed environments). Currently we have one empirical paper which contributes to the team level of analysis, specifically examining shared team leadership in a lab setting that manipulations team member dispersion and use of virtual tools.

With that said, we would like to invite you to participate in this session. We understand this is a late invitation, but we would appreciate your consideration. If you are interested in participating we ask you to contact us by August 28th. If you are already fully booked for SIOP 2013, please feel free to extend this invitation to your students or colleagues with interest in this topic area. Once we finalize the participants we will require a 750-word summary of the presentation by September 5th.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing about the research you believe would add to the impact of this session.

    Best regards,
