There has been an increased interest in the role and impact of religion at the workplace over the last fifteen years. At the same time, religious fundamentalism has emerged as a central issue in nations across the globe. Not surprisingly then, recent years have witnessed an increase in research interest regarding the impact of fundamentalism and fundamentalists at the workplace. The purpose of the proposed PDW is to address the various ways in which fundamentalism and fundamentalist employees from different religious traditions may impact the workplace by both providing an overview of existing research in the field and a framework in which MSR and other management scholars (and practitioners) can investigate how the increased presence of fundamentalist employees at the workplace may relate to their area of interest and activity. Specifically, among the issues examined will be how fundamentalism may impact the way in which individuals view work and work-related identities, the perceived rights and limitations of religious-related behavior at the workplace, the nature of hierarchal and collegial relations at the workplace and the manner in which organizations-themselves-may respond to the increasing presence of religious fundamentalists at the workplace.
The PDW will be comprised of two parts: presentations regarding current research and knowledge and open discussion among participants.
