Creativity and innovation management is rife with tensions and paradoxes, requiring organizations, teams and employees to pursue seemingly contradictory elements and demands. Answering recent calls to shift from an either/or thinking to a paradoxical thinking, researchers have begun to develop theories and explore conditions under which the inconsistent processes and demands, inherent in creativity and innovation, can co-exist. Our goal for the PDW is to urge scholars and practitioners to 'think outside the box' about factors that influence creativity and innovation by viewing creativity and innovation through a paradox lens. We will identify innovation paradoxes and mixed findings in the literature, and discuss conditions that allow the coexistence of conflicting elements and demands in creativity and innovation.

The workshop will include short research presentations and round tables discussions.
Research Presentations (4:45- 6:15 p.m.): The presenters will discuss their current research, identify paradoxes related to creativity and innovation, and point to possible challenges, questions and new directions.
Round Tables Discussions (6:15-6:45.): Participants will break into round tables and discuss topics such as: 1) paradoxes related to creativity and innovation 2) how the adoption of a paradox lens can help explain mixed and unexpected finding in the creativity and innovation literature?   3) whether and how creativity and innovation paradoxes vary across levels of analysis  4) research methods appropriate for studying tensions and paradoxes related to creativity and innovation, and 5) the role of time in creativity and innovation management.

Preregistration to the PDW is not required.

We hope to see you in Boston!

    Ella, Eitan and Mia
