This PDW sets our research directions on the management of internal and external ideas. Idea management refers to a number of important activities taking place before or in parallel with innovation. Idea management is associated with idea generation, sourcing and search, selection, evaluation, development and application. So far, research on idea management in firms is divided into two mainly isolated research streams, one on internal and one on external idea generation and development. This PDW combines and integrates the two research streams, and hence sets out new and challenging research directions for the field of idea management. For clarity, the PDW addresses four key theoretical lenses in the field of idea management: - Strategic research on the conditions for generating, searching for, sourcing, selecting, evaluating, developing and applying ideas from internal and external sources - Research on the importance of the role, structure and dynamics of networks, communities and other types of social relationships for idea management - Motivation and stimuli for internal and external idea generation and development - Research on individual and organizational learning processes in internal and external idea management The PDW addresses both academic and practitioners perspectives on the topic. The involved team of researcher consists of experienced scholars with a strong track record and junior researchers who bring in upcoming and challenging research perspectives into this domain.
