    Dear OB Division Members:

    We'd like to invite you to attend our OB and GDO sponsored PDW during this year's AOM Meeting:

    Social Identity Dominance: How We All Live Privileged Identities (and What To Do About It)(Session # 267)

    Saturday, August 4, 2012, 10am-12pm, Boston Park Plaza, Cabot Room

    Description:

    Developing one's ability to lead and manage organizations effectively requires the capacity to manage one's self. At the core of this self-management is the capacity to manage identity and the multiplicity of identities we all hold. While research has examined some of the dynamics of multiple identities (Bodenhausen, 2010; Holvino, 2010), we still understand little about the intersections of power and identity in self- management. In this PDW, we plan to explore these intersections by identifying, and deepening our understanding of the impacts dominant social identities have on intra- and interpersonal dynamics.

    This will be a highly interactive workshop where each participant will be guided in exploring aspects of their own social identity dominance and privilege.  It will be very relevant both to academics and practitioners, and the presenting team combines both these perspectives.

    Organizer: Martin N. Davidson; Darden School, U. of Virginia;

    Organizer: Heather R. Wishik; Heather Wishik Consulting;

    Facilitator: Tim Ewing; Case Western Reserve U.;

    Facilitator: Sharon Bueno Washington; Washington, Orange, Wheeler, LLC;

    Advanced registration is strongly encouraged as the size of the group will be limited.

    Martin
