    Dear colleagues,
in our new research lab at the University of Western Australia, we set
out to accelerate the leadership development of executives.

In this context, could you recommend any simulations that you have
successfully used in your teaching/training that would be suitable for
a wide range of leaders, including rather senior leaders, in
    developing their complexity/ effectiveness?

I would be very grateful if you could send me any recommendations, and
will collate and share them on the OB-list serv.
    Best wishes,
    Uta

    Hi Uta,

I use a variation of role playing that I refer to as 'intensive role playing' that is loosely based on Moreno's work with psychodrama.  Participants play themselves and an actor/facilitator plays a character that the participant finds particularly challenging to have an interpersonal conversation.  It's a really good application of social cognitive theory principles.  Participants not only get enactive mastery practice working with the actor but other participants learn vicariously and the actor/facilitator also gives feedback and coaches the participant on different approaches.  It seems to work b/c it the participant experiences the emotional as well as the cognitive context of the conversation.

Psychodrama in Leadership training has been around a long time as this description of a leadership training exercise used by Ron Lippitt describes:

"The Psychodrama in Leadership Training", Sociometry Vol 6, No. 3 (Aug 1943).

    An oldie but a goodie......

    Cheers
