    Dear OB listserv members,

I am looking for research on role perceptions in organizations and their impacts on decision-making.  Any suggestions?

    Hi John,

Depending on how you're thinking about "roles" (i.e., whether you would be interested in professional identity), there's a lot of great work on how professional identity informs decision making and judgments. Two personal favorites:

Hekman, Bigley, Steensma, & Hereford (2009). Combined effects of organizational and professional identification on the reciprocity dynamic for professional employees. Academy of Management Journal, 52, 506-526.

Pratt & Rafaeli (1997). Organizational dress as a symbol of multilayered social identities. Academy of Management Journal, 40, 862-898.

    Good luck!

       -Keith

    Colleagues.

I am looking for established measures that indicate degrees of quality in a leader/follower relationship in the workplace.  Also, I am looking for studies that may correlate psychological distance with relationship quality.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Subject: [OB-LIST] Tenure-track faculty position in OB

Dear OB Members - I am writing to let you know about an opening at Rider University.  Please see the ad copy below.  I will be conducting interviews at the AOM meeting so send me an email with your CV if you are interested in setting up an interview.

    Regards,
    Joy Schneer

The Department of Management at Rider University is seeking a candidate for a tenure-track position in the area of Organizational Behavior and Management at the Assistant Professor level starting in September 2014.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Management or Organizational Behavior (or a closely related field) by September 2014.  The candidate must show strong potential in teaching as well as research skills consistent with AACSB standards.  He/she will primarily teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the domain of team management, management skills, leadership, and organizational behavior.  The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in developing leadership skills of traditional undergraduate students as well as interacting with working adult learners in the MBA and Executive MBA programs.

The 10-month work year has a standard teaching load of 3 fall/3 spring classes, with 13-week semesters. Summer teaching opportunities are available on the Rider campus. Tenure-track faculty members are expected to conduct research leading to publications in quality refereed journals, and participate in department, school, and university service activities. Summer research fellowships and other research funding are available.

Rider University is a private, AACSB-accredited, coeducational university located near Princeton, NJ, and within easy driving distance or train ride to New York City and Philadelphia. Rider is ranked in the top tier of northern regional universities by US News and World Report and was named by The Princeton Review as one of the "Best 376 Colleges" in the nation for 2012. The Department of Management currently consists of 12 faculty members with diverse teaching and research interests.

All applicants must complete an on-line application at www.rider.edu/hr, 'Employment Opportunities'; 'Create Application'; and attach a letter of interest, with a curriculum vitae.  Undergraduate and graduate transcripts, sample research papers, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and three letters of recommendation also are required and can be sent separately to: Manager of Employment, Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648-3099. Please reference position number 311172.

Review of applications will begin in August 2013, with full consideration given to those applicants who apply no later than October 1, 2013.  Department representatives will be attending the August Academy of Management meeting in Orlando, FL and meeting with select applicants at that time.  (An online application is still required even if contact is made at the AOM meeting).  Applicants interested in potentially meeting with department representatives at the AOM meeting should send their CVs via e-mail to the department chair, Prof. Joy Schneer (schneer@rider.edu).
