    Hello

I am teaching negotiations and I was wondering if you can recommend some good clips or movies (TED Talk, ...) to show in class to demonstrate different topics in negotiation (mediation, dispute resolution, anchoring, cross cultural,...)

    Cheers

    Hi Sara,
A classic scene I use is the following from Mr. Deeds.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihpe07LoOx0

When I taught my OB class last semester, I also showed a nice video of an interview with Linda Babcock (about her work on how women are less likely to negotiate), but the link is broken and I couldn't find it again. However, here's another video of her (which I haven't watched yet).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7JGXKwKR2c

I'd love to hear what other responses you get!
    Be well,
    Marc

    Hello Sara,

The movie "Draft Day" is an excellent example. You could tease out some interesting aspects from movies like Jerry Maguire, In Good Company, Working Girl, etc. Also TV shows like Hardcore Pawn or Pawn Stars can provide some interesting insights.

    Best wishes,

Towards the end of Lawrence of Arabia, there's a wonderful scene of Faisal (Alec Guiness) negotiating with General Allenby (Jack Hawkins) and the British delegate (Claude Rains) over who would control Damascus.

This is one of my favorite clips to use in a negotiation class (often the opening day), from the movie "Defending your life"

"The Freedom Writers" may be relevant.  Although it isn't negotiation specifically, it shows how developing an understanding of different perspectives can contribute to finding solutions that work for everyone.

    Hi Sara,

I use a clip from the "Conflict Resolution" episode of the American version of "The Office." Michael Scott attempts to mediate a conflict between Oscar and Angela using information about mediation that he gets from a binder (information that is eerily similar to some of the stuff we teach).

Here are some that I use:
    - Negotiating with the Dentist on You Tube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_qwjcxwUqw
    - The Salary Negotiation. Season 3, Episode 18 of The Office. Michael
uses tactics to negotiate a raise with Darryl from the warehouse.
    - Rosewell, the HBS video and case, is still a favorite. It's so old,
it's new again. A great four-party internal negotiation.
    - Blank Check, a Taxi episode where Louis is trying to determine the
optimum "ask" after Jim's wealthy father offer to pay for damage Jim
    caused to Louis' apartment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOfql6Uj7C8
    - Marty Ummel sues Real Estate Agent. A today show interview that's
perfect when you're talking about ethics and agency and the responsibility
of the principal when using an agent.

This may fall more into realm of Conflict Resolution, but the movie "12 Angry Men" is a great example. The original screen version from 1959, with Henry Fonda is the better choice. The newer with Jack Lemmon is also good. I used this in a couple of classes with good results.

For an entertaining take of high-stakes negotiations (hostage
negotiations), I like the movie "The Negotiator" with Samuel L. Jackson
and Kevin Spacey from 1998. It is a bit over the top but illustrates
    some useful concepts.

Final Offer from the National Film Board of Canada is also a fascinating
documentary about the 1984 historic negotiations between United Auto
    Workers and General Motors. https://www.nfb.ca/film/final_offer
