In his classical book The Borderless World, management guru Kenichi Ohmae wrote that in the borderless world, the interlinked economy (ILE) has occupied the center of the economic stage … that he is, first of all, a citizen of the world, and needs the competitive powers in language, wisdom and thought pattern to create global wealth in this borderless world. As the world economy is growing into a closely interlinked entity, and economic globalization evolving with an unstoppable momentum, we need to develop a globalized perspective and a pioneering initiative to push borderless management forward perseveringly with great drive and knowledge, and participate in market competition as globalized players. As a result, establishing a values system featuring globalized observation and thinking, and cultivating borderless management talents featuring global vision, thought pattern and intellectual mode constitute the only passage to the arena of “borderless world, borderless management.”
In close cooperation with Shanghai Management Science Institute (SMSI) and China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee (NMESC), Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) will hold the 2nd International Conference on Cross-cultural Management in Shanghai, China on December 18, 2011. This conference will focus on the theme of “Cultivating borderless management talents”, and work with leading scholars and practitioners in the field of management from home and abroad to explore the positioning and design features of the “borderless management” philosophy, enrich relevant theories and practice in cross-border operation, and pool thoughts on cultivating such talents to better meet the need of the era.
As one of the national key universities in China on the “Project 211” list, SISU is jointly funded and administered by China’s Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipal Government. It enjoys a history of more than 60 years in linguistic and cross-cultural studies, and has had 26 years’ experience in management education and research. At present, SISU has not only laid a solid foundation for internationalized talent cultivation and cross-cultural management studies, but also conserved rich resources in cross-cultural management education and research. By choosing “cultivating borderless management talents” as its theme, this conference aims at building a platform for exploring features essential to the definition of borderless management and latest issues in multinationals-based global enterprise management. It also aims at a discussion on the features of borderless management talents, and developing and education models.
