  • 1.  Recent case for MBA's on power, politics, and control in organisations

    Posted 01-02-2011 05:33
    Dear Colleagues

I am desperately seeking a fairly recent case on power, politics, and control in organisations particularly as (mis)used by leaders, managers, etc, for an MBA org. behaviour subject. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Kyle Bruce

    Kyle,

I am still impressed by the Jeff Pfeffer's case Fall from Grace on Jeffry Sonnenfeld's travails at Emory. The case is extremely rich in detail. The added attraction is that Jeff Sonnefeld is now doing very well at Yale School of Management and has published an HBR article and a book on this case so you can do a "coming back" thing too. But it is not new. If anyone does have a suggestion for a more recent case, I would be delighted to learn about it!

    Dear Kyle,

If 2008 fits your definition of "fairly recent", you may want to consider the HBS case: "Thomas Green: Power, Office Politics, and a Career in Crisis."
