    Dear Organization Behavior Division Members,

I am happy to announce that you can now order your complimentary preview copy of Effective Leadership: Theories, Cases, and Applications, by Ronald H. Humphrey. I greatly appreciate your taking the time to review the book. Effective Leadership will be published on June 11, 2013, so you will have plenty of time over the summer to read the book before the busy fall semester starts. Please request your copy now using this link:

    http://www.sagepub.com/books/Book232558?siteId=sage-us&prodTypes=any&q=Humphrey&fs=1#tabview=title

If you are not teaching leadership classes but want to use the book as a reference book, you can buy the book at a discount price ($42.00 from the Sage website) using this priority code: N130402 (prices are subject to change, so please order before the discount disappears).

I know that in these tough economic times that many students have trouble affording textbooks, so I picked a publisher (SAGE) that has reasonable prices. Effective Leadership is priced at $50.64 on http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/effective-leadership-ronald-h-humphrey/1113992202?ean=9781412963558 (with free shipping). Given that it comes with a free online course pack and expensive layout features that many of the more pricey books lack (like photos of the leaders covered in the cases), this is a great price for a comprehensive research based textbook. In comparison, the other leadership textbooks listed on barnesandnoble.com are priced at $73.91, $144.76, $184.23, $225.78, and $228.21 (prices on 4-24-13).

The reviewer comments on the Sage webpage are not from my buddies, coauthors, former students, etc.  They are from confidential reviewers who were asked their opinions about whether the book should be published (I only saw their names after they agreed to let their comments be posted). I think their comments show their genuine enthusiasm for the book, and they certainly have my thanks for their kind words. I hope you enjoy reading the book as much as the reviewers did. I have also used draft chapters of the books in my own leadership classes, and the student comments on online confidential course evaluations have been just as enthusiastic as the faculty comments. Here is a sample student comment:

The textbook for this course is the best one I have had during my undergraduate and graduate studies. Dr. Humphrey did a great job incorporating personal reflections and real, current business examples to complement the theory of organizational leadership. I didn't feel like I was reading a textbook when I read for this class, I felt like I was learning without even realizing it. It's a wonderful textbook.

Imagine what it would be like to have your students enthusiastically praise the book used in your course. Thank you very much for considering Effective Leadership.

    Enjoy your summer,

    Ronald H. Humphrey
