  • 1.  Help with Team Effectiveness Scales

    Posted 11-05-2010 14:44
    Greetings,

I'm looking for scales to measure Hackman's (1987) three criteria for team effectiveness: task performance, team viability, and team member's satisfaction. Much to my surprise, I haven't been able to find a lot of full scales reported in journal articles despite the massive volume of team literature. I have Edmondson's (1999) team performance scales, Hoegl & Gemuenden's (2001) member satisfaction scale, and Rentsch & Klimoski's (2001) team effectiveness scale, but I don't think those are quite "it." I would very much appreciate any input you have.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mai

    Min,

I am not very sure, but you might be able to find the scales in Hackman, J. R. (Ed.). (1990). Groups that work (and those that don't). San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.

    Thanks,

    Ivan

    Hi Mai.

I think what you are looking for is the Team Diagnostic Survey (https://research.wjh.harvard.edu/TDS/).  This instrument is described in detail in the paper linked to the aforementioned site:

Wageman, R., Hackman, J.R., & Lehman, E.V. (2005).  The team diagnostic survey: Development of an instrument.  Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, 41, 373-398.

    Hope that helps!

    Dear Mai,

You'll find scales for measuring Hackman's criteria for team effectiveness in this JABS article:

Wageman, Hackman, & Lehman. 2005. Team Diagnostic Survey: Development of an Instrument. Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, 41(4), 1-25. DOI: 10.1177/0021886305281984

You might also find helpful this online version of the survey and related resources (by Hackman and colleagues):  http://www.team-diagnostics.com/
