AOM 2011 Professional Development Workshop "Creativity Research beyond Boundaries: Multi- and Interdisciplinary Approaches"

Resulting from initial discussions at this year's annual meeting of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) in Adelaide, Australia with the theme "unforeseeable futures" creativity was perceived as one of the core areas of future inquiry for better preparing organizations for innovation, change and ultimately longevity.

While researchers in different fields agree that employee creativity is a key capability of organizations, especially in times of increasing market velocity and globalization, the linkages of research across levels are still in their infancies. We observe that research has been predominantly carried out on one level and with strong bias towards the individual and group-level. The capability to stimulate, organize and manage creativity on a firm-level however, is the basis of not only established (such as the design industry), but also emergent (such as the video gaming) industries. Moreover, creative potential is recognized within several areas of almost any organization and is expected to increasingly attract research interest in the future. We want to kick-off a discussion looking from a broader and more holistic view to advance creativity research.
