We are launching our inaugural MBA program at Utah Valley University and the first course that I am facilitating is a course on Managing Individuals and Groups.  One of our first sessions is going to be a review of the concepts and research related to individual differences, mostly around personality, attitudes, values and emotions.  The week following that introduction I would like to have them prepare a case that involves having to understand and apply the ideas of individual differences in coworkers and subordinates.  Does anyone know of a case that would be good for them to practice applying the topics mentioned above?  It doesn't need to be free and I would love to have a Harvard case, but haven't been able to locate one on their site yet.  Thanks for you help on this.

I used this text today to discuss individuals in my managing diversity course.  Might not be appropriate, but there are stories therein that do hit the mark re individuals and their differences and institutions.

    Good afternoon Jeff,

I don't know of a specific case.  At BC's Leadership for
change Program  there was a multi- pronged focus from
individual, groups, organizations and society.  For
the individual focus, a portion of Robert Kegan's book
*In over our heads* was used. Also segments from
Bill Torbert's work (among others *Action Inquiry: The
Secret of Timely and Transforming Leadership) were
used.  For groups Joe Raelin's led the segment using
his own work based learning materials.

Rebecca Rowley who heads up the LC  program
may be able to provide more current information.

    Best,
    Cecile

    Jeff,

I've been using the Vista-Sci Health Care case, published by Ivey to address person-job fit  (skills, abilities, personality, and values of candidates for promotion). I use it in an undergraduate course, but I think it would be fine for MBA students, especially at the beginning of the semester.

    Hi Jeff,

A classic is John Wolford A (UVA-OB-167)... it addresses all of those issues and more.

    Newer cases include

Bob Johnson at Honeywell Aerospace (with video clips)

Dennis Paustenbach at Chemrisk (with video clips)

                    K2: Chris Warner's extraordinary 2007 expedition

    All Darden cases.

Here's the website for searching.  https://store.darden.virginia.edu/

If I can help, let me know.

    Best wishes,

    Hi there,

Yet another case on personality from the Richard Ivey School of Business that includes personality data in an exhibit for the professor is: Bruce Cruickshank. Ivey Publishing 9B01C031. It comes with a teaching note Teaching Note (Ivey Publishing 8B01C31).
