We are seeking papers to include in SIOP symposium on new directions in interpersonal workplace dysfunctions.  Specifically, we are interested in papers addressing the following topics:

    • Abusive or toxic leadership
    • Ethical misbehavior at work
    • Relationship conflict, particularly focused on affective problems and communication breakdowns
    • Excessive need for control (micromanaging, rigidity)
    • Poor performance

    ·        If you have relevant research or theoretical papers  that would be completed by April 2011 and are interested in attending the conference in Chicago, please send a summary to Cindy Stevens (cstevens@rhsmith.umd.edu) or Debbie Searcy (dsearcy@rhsmith.umd.edu).  Below is a summary of our proposed abstract:

Interpersonal Workplace Dysfunctions: New Ideas and Directions for Research

    ABSTRACT

Within the workplace, individuals may abuse, micromanage, bully, deceive, yell, criticize, and perform poorly, with detrimental interpersonal and organizational consequences.  To date, researchers have investigated these behaviors separately. This symposium proposes to discuss the commonalities among these workplace dysfunctions by examining defining characteristics, antecedents, and consequences.
