    Apologies for cross-posting

We invite you to attend the following Professional Development Workshop (PDW) sponsored by the Health Care Management (HCM) and Operations Management (OM) Divisions on Friday, August 6th at 9:00 a.m.

Measuring Hospital Unit Performance-Strategic Planning & Performance Improvement
The Queen Elizabeth in Hochelaga 3

Millicent Nelson (Middle Tennessee State University)

    Richard Tarpey (HCA)

Emma Metcalf (VA Tennessee Valley Health System)
    Matrecia James (Jacksonville University)
    Velma Roberts (Florida A&M University)

Under the theme of this year's AOM annual meeting "Dare to Care", the question of concern is how can unit managers ensure there is enough staff to provide quality care for existing and expected patients, maintain employee satisfaction via a healthy work environment without over-working or under-working, and meet budgetary constraints for resources?

This PDW is intended to bring together knowledge and expertise from both the academic and industry arenas to explore and discuss the many potential measurements that can be used to assess performance within the above areas in an attempt to identify key measurements that can be used which are: accurate, readily available, and easy to understand.

Participants can expect to engage in group and sub-group conversations discussing the potential of various performance metrics to guide unit managers toward excelling in performance at the unit, employee, and patient levels.

Although pre-registration is not required, for planning purposes we would like to hear from those interested by August 3, 2010. If you have already responded, we thank you and look forward to seeing you.
