Dear Stefan,
In response to your great summary, Reinout de Vries asked me to add the
following regarding the HEXACO Personality Inventory:
You might consider the HEXACO Personality Inventory. In addition to the
traditional Big 5 factors, the HEXACO also assesses a 6th
dimension--Honesty-Humility--that predicts ethical decision-making and
behavior. Kibeom Lee & Michael Ashton maintain a website where you can
download the measure and relevant articles:
http://hexaco.org.
Note that, apart from the addition of Honesty-Humility, two of the
domains of the HEXACO-PI-R (Revised version of the HEXACO Personality
Inventory) are rotated versions of two Big 5 factors. Emotionality does
not contain the irritability component which is present in Neuroticism
(or: revised Emotional Stability); this component has shifted to HEXACO
Agreeableness instead. Thus HEXACO Emotionality is characterized by
sentimentality, dependency, anxiety, and fearfulness while Agreeableness
is now characterized by a (lack of) anger, hostility, and thus by
forgiveness, patience, gentleness, and flexibility. Additionally, a nice
paper on the discussion of 'blendedness' (i.e., facets that belong to
more than one domain scale) is found in Ashton, M.C., Lee, K., Goldberg,
L.R., & De Vries, R.E. (2009). Higher-order factors of personality: Do
they exist? Personality and Social Psychology Review, 13, 79-91.
Kind regards,
Astrid on behalf of Reinout de Vries

Onderwerp: [OB-LIST] Summary: Which is the most frequently used Big 5
instrument?
Thanks to everyone who responded to my request concerning the most
frequently used Big 5 instrument. I've attached a Word document that has
the summary. I personally think that the HEXACO Personality Inventory is
an interesting 'new' instrument. I am just not sure how established it
is by now.
Thanks again!
